Introduction
This is a guide for the Commodore Encoder tool. This guide will explain a little about the complex world of video codec's and recommend solutions and work arounds. We suggest that you encode all your videos with the Commodore Encoder that you wish to play on your Gravel In Pocket.
Installing the software
Double click the setup.exe file. The software will auto install and detect for missing pre-requests (updates needed for this software to work) and prompt you to install them if needed.
Using the tool
Please follow the instructions below to enjoy your videos in optimized quality.
- Install the Commodore Encoder software by clicking the ‘Setup’ icon.
- The setup file may prompt you to install pre-request software, please install.
- Complete the installation.
- Open the program via Start > All Programs > Commodore Encoder
- Select the folder in which the video file is located. Note: The Commodore Encoder will encode all the video files with the same extention/format within the folder you chose. Thus if you have hundreds of video in one folder, all will be converted.
- Select the destination folder where the new file is to be placed. Make sure this folder is different from the folder with the original file.
- Select the file type of the original video.
- Press convert.
- Copy your video files to your Gravel In Pocket.
Pre-requests
When installing the software, you may be prompted to install the below three pre-request software applications.
1 -
.NET FRAMEWORK 2
Dot Net Framework is a Windows upgrade.
2 -
Windows Media Encoder
This is the Official Microsoft video converter tool that Commodore Encoder will use to convert your video files.
3 -
K-Lite
A monster codec install package to work with Windows Media Player/Encoder. Installing K-lite will also enable you to play almost any video format on your PC.
More info: When installing K-Lite, please keep all default settings, there is not need to change options.
Known issues
- If your video has no audio, the tool will fail. The next version will solve this.
- Sometimes your video conversions will just not work. An error message will say "codec missing" this means your PC is missing the video codec to convert . This is not a software nor a Computer problem. Sometime codec’s get corrupt, go missing or they were never there to start with. A solution would be to play your video file with Windows Media Player, most times Windows Media player will detect a missing codec, and install it.
- The Commodore encoder will encode all the files in your folder. Please be sure not to encode a folder with hundreds of video files and subfolders. Perhaps set up a temporty video folder just for encoding.
